The organizing committee of the Film and Video ICARO Festival Central America and Casa Comal have pleasure in inviting all producers, directors, technicians and lovers of audiovisual art in Central America and the World, to participate in the eleventh Icaro Festival to take place in Guatemala City from 13th to the 20th of November 2008.
Taking into account the growth and importance of the Icaro ´Roadshow´ Festival, which has now spread to every Central American country, the committee has decided to convert it into a competitive festival at international level.
For the first time, an international jury will chose an official selection which will compete in the regional competition in November at the Icaro Festival in Guatemala. The National Icaro Festivals will take place during August 2008, and ´Diplomas of Recognition´ will be awarded to the selected productions at each country´s closing night Gala.
For the second year running the Icaro Prize for ´Hunger and Malnutrition in Central America´ will be awarded. |

- The inscription period will be from 9 May to 30 July.
- All producers and directors from Central America, or foreigners with more than 5 years of residency, are able to compete in the following categories.
- Feature film (fiction)
- Short Film (fiction)
- Documentary Educational
- Documentary News
- Report Experimental
- Video Clip (Pop promo music)
- Animation
Prizes will be awarded for the best audiovisual Central Americans in the following categories:
- Direction
- Photography
- Script
- Production
- Sound
- Editing
- Art Direction
- Actress
- Actor
- The foreign producers based overseas can participate in the following categories.
- Foreign short film
- Foreign feature film
- Foreign documentary
- All entries are able to compete in any of the above mentioned categories if the production was completed between 2007 and 2008.
- Procedures for Central American competitors:
- From 9th May the inscription form will be available online to download at www.festivalicaro.com. It should be sent to the relevant local Icaro representative with a copy to coordinacion@icarofestival.com
- Submit 3 copies of your production on DVD to your local Icaro representative accompanied by a CD of supporting material : including technical documents, synopsis and 2 photos (at 300dpi) to:

- They should be clearly marked “SIN VALOR COMERCIAL PARA USOS CULTURALES” to ensure that the recipient is not charged any taxes.
- The Festival will not pay any import duties.
- All productions should be in the Spanish language or with subtitles in the Spanish language.
- From October 5th the official list of nominees will be available online at www.festivalicaro.com All decisions are final.
- For the second year running the Prize for Hunger & Malnutrition ($2000) will be awarded to the production that most contributes to the awareness raising and solution of the problem in the region. Sponsors of the prize include : In cap, Presanca, Ayuda En Accion and FAO-PESA, institutions dedicated to the struggle against hunger in the region.
- All the materials received with the exception of the 35mm films, will be incorporated into the ´Mediateca´ at Casacomal Art & Culture. The nominees and winners will be incorporated into the Icaro Festival in every country and can be screened at non-profit international festivals.
- The qualified Jury of the Eleventh Icaro will be made up of prestigious and internationally renowned producers and Filmmakers. The jury´s decision is irrevocable. The list of nominees will be published on 18 November on the festival webpage.
- The Icaro prizes will be awarded at the closing night Gala Party on November 20th 2008 at Centro Cultural Miguel Ángel Asturias.
- The Jury for the official selection in each of the other countries will be made up of 1 national, 1 Central American and 1 Non Central American.
